Delayed Trains

After landing in Italy for my summer vacation I headed for the train station. Once there a metallic voice announced that the train I initially planned to take would be late. I walked to the ticket machine and checked the options available. Luckily there was a train departing soon that would take a detour and reach the same destination after an extra train change.

The first train was brand new and the journey was comfortable. I jumped off at the intermediary destination and I was greeted by the relentless midday summer heat. To kill the time I took my camera off by backpack and took some photos. This is the one that came out the best. The lines work very well but… there is no subject!

The second train entered the small stations and I hopped on. Unlike the first one this train was older and moving excruciatingly slowly. The sun was entering the left side of the northbound train and all the seats on the right side were taken.

The ticket collector entered the carriage and sluggishly walked by announcing that he already checked this part. Ok.

I looked at the creases on my linen pats and snapped a photo.

Then I pointed the camera outside and captured my reflection on the window with the moving countryside as the background.

It’s interesting how a train detour instead of an annoyance can became a small photographic adventure.
